|First appearance:||Alchemy, Season Three|
Alex was born to a pair of aging hipsters born out in a suburb of Southern California, and as is so often the case, they were determined not to raise him with the same social pressures brought on them by their parents, and while they might have grown out of the sex/drugs/rock'n'roll lifestyle, some aspects stuck. Alex never was pressured into sports, allowed to explore what interested him, and carefully allowed to grow in his own way, whatever that may be. The upshot of this was that Alex enjoyed a freedom that was the envy of many of his peers, but he had never found anything that truly 'stuck', and his pursuits were largely only of things he enjoyed, whether or not they were in any way productive.
Though intelligent, quick-witted and not more than a little sneaky when the situation required, Alex never applied more than was strictly nessary through his schooling and later college days, which painted him as unremarkable, though--in what would become a recurring theme in Alex's life, many teachers chided him for not living to his 'potential.' His priorities no higher than a job that paid the bills and allowed him as much time as he could to play games with his friends, enjoy life and live in relative comfort, Alex settled on an English degree that he now regards as 'largely useless', scoring a Technical Writing job with a software company and settling into a life of monotony punctuated by moments of slaying imaginary dragons or exploring imaginary planets on the television screen.
Alex only recently 'awakened to this new world after a night of gaming and card-games. After initial panic that the combination of alcohol, long hours of Munchkin and a life devoted more to Gygax and Gaiman had finally warped his brain, Alex is struggling to cope with a world that he thought only lived in fantasy--and may find the responsibility that comes with it hard to endure... even for him.
