There is something to be said about the simplicity of growing up in Iowa. However, for Ryan growing up was just about as boring and uneventful as it was "simple". His only thrills came on family vacations and even then it was just to a neighboring state. His family was firmly middle class. His mother was the only locksmith in the county, but that didn't translate into enough work to keep her busy. While his father was the chief of the volunteer fire department, and ran the only auto shop in town. His father ran the shop with the idea of family in mind. He helped those that needed it, and was paid for his work most the time. There was always at least one car that was getting fixed in the shop for no profit, but that was the way things worked in a tightly knit small town.
